Jim Morrison Sr., 86, of Redding, California, passed away on August 19, 2026 - exactly one year and two days after his beloved wife, Gloria. They shared 64 years of marriage in this life, and his family finds comfort in imagining them together again: 64 years here, and forever in the next.

Jim was born in Plainview, Texas, to Orville and Helen Morrison. As a child, he moved with his family to the San Fernando Valley. The oldest of four boys, Jim grew up alongside his brothers Don, Ron, and Keith.

At 20 years old, Jim joined the United States Navy, serving two years on active duty followed by additional time in the reserves. In 1961, he married the love of his life, Gloria, and together they built a family that would remain at the center of his world.

While living in Los Angeles, Jim worked for Conrock Construction as a concrete truck driver. He and Gloria moved their family to Shasta County in 1976, where Jim later worked for and retired from J.F. Shea Construction.

Jim loved being surrounded by family and friends and never met a stranger. He liked to keep busy and could almost always be found working on a project. In his younger years, he took his family dirt-bike riding in the desert, with Gorman and the Mojave among their favorite places. As the years passed, dirt bikes gave way to ATVs and memorable trips to the Oregon dunes with his children and grandchildren. He also loved horseback riding and heading out on the trails.

Jim believed the journey was part of the adventure. He was always willing to take the scenic route, even when it doubled the drive time. It is a fitting picture of the way he lived: unhurried by shortcuts, curious about what might be found along the way, and happiest when the people he loved were beside him.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Helen; his brothers, Don and Ron; his child, Randy; and his precious wife, Gloria. He is lovingly remembered by his brother, Keith Morrison; his children, Jim Morrison Jr., Janice Wilhelmson, and Robert Morrison; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and the many family members and friends whose lives were made richer by knowing him.

To his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jim and Gloria were lovingly known as “the Greats” - a name that now carries the memory of two deeply loved people and the beautiful life they built together.
